Everything You Need to Know About Laminated Flooring: Customer Q&A

At DECKO, we value customer inquiries and believe in providing detailed responses. Recently, a customer, Yvonne, reached out with several questions about laminated flooring, and we thought her queries would be helpful for others considering similar flooring options. Here’s a breakdown of the discussion.

Q: I saw your advert on Facebook while I was looking at laminated flooring at Bunnings. Are they spying on me?

A: This is one of the wonders (or tricks) of AI and social media—yes, in a way, they’re "spying" on us! 😊 But it’s all to show you ads for products that align with your interests.

Q: I noticed there are only a few reviews for your laminated floor. Most seem to be about tiles. Can you direct me to more feedback?

A: It’s great that you’re looking for reviews—this is always a smart move. While I can’t search all reviews myself, I can assure you that our customers across New Zealand, Australia, and Europe are extremely satisfied with our products. You can try searching for "DECKO SPC Floor Reviews" online, and you’ll find plenty of positive feedback.

Q: Do you offer a trade discount? I’m part of a property group that gets trade discounts at suppliers like Bunnings.

A: We provide high-quality products directly from the factory to our customers, ensuring the best prices without sacrificing quality. While we don’t have specific trade discounts, we’re currently offering a 10% discount for orders over 45 sqm. Additionally, you can use the VIP5 code for an extra 5% off—a special offer for VIP returning buyers, valid until the end of November. This discount applies to all our products, including our new wall coverings. Check out the products.

Q: I’m considering flooring from Bunnings for $37 per sqm with a 20-year guarantee. How does yours compare?

A: There are still considerable differences in product quality, even when they seem similar. Our product uses a patented click system that’s not only easy to install but also certified as waterproof in New Zealand. It’s ideal for wet areas like kitchens and bathrooms. You can learn more about it on the SPC product page.

Q: I like your Legno product, which isn’t available in the range I’m looking at from Bunnings. Could you tell me more?

A: Legno is one of our most popular products! It includes a 1mm EVA underlay in its 5mm structure, offering great strength, fire, and water resistance. It’s not just vinyl—many options from other stores are simply plastic vinyl products, but ours bridges gaps and provides superior durability.

Q: Do I need to use trim if I don’t have skirting boards yet? How much gap should I leave for laminate expansion?

A: SPC expands very little with heat, but as with all floating floors, you’ll need to leave dilation gaps. For small rooms, allow 4-6mm, and for larger areas, 8-9mm is recommended. If you plan to add skirting boards, install them after the flooring. We offer innovative, colour-matching skirtings that are easy to fit seamlessly.

Q: Bunnings suggests adding extra underlay for a comfier feel. Is that possible with your flooring?

A: This can be risky! Some Bunnings products don’t have attached underlay, and adding more can cause issues like unbalanced boards or damage to the click system. Our boards come with factory-attached underlay, which is sufficient and prevents these risks.

Q: Can I lay the flooring directly onto an existing wooden floor, and in which direction should I lay it?

A: Absolutely! You can lay the boards in any direction you prefer. If the existing floor is slightly uneven, it’s a good idea to sand it, but the surface doesn’t have to be perfect. Our product works well on a variety of surfaces, including concrete gaps and broken tiles.

We hope Yvonne’s questions helped clarify some points for you! If you have more specific queries, feel free to send us your measurements or photos so we can assist further. Don't forget, our DIY installation is dust-free and as easy as breaking glass after scoring it with a utility knife!
